Where is the water stopcock in a Glasgow tenement?
In most Glasgow tenement flats the internal stopcock is under the kitchen sink, behind a removable panel. The shared close stopcock controlling the whole building is usually in the ground-floor close or backcourt, often inside a hinged metal cover. If you cannot locate either, call Plumbers Glasgow Ltd on +44 141 468 9930 and we will talk you through it.
The flat-level stopcock
In most Glasgow tenements built before 1919, the internal stopcock is fitted under the kitchen sink within a metre of the cold tap. It is a brass valve on the cold supply pipe with a small wheel or a square spindle that needs a turn-key.
The close-level stopcock
The shared stopcock for the whole tenement is usually at ground-floor level in the close or backcourt, in a small inspection chamber under a metal cover. It controls water to every flat in the close, so should only be turned off as a last resort.

The street stopcock
On the public footpath outside the property is the Scottish Water stopcock, under a small round metal cover marked "SW" or "W". This is operated by Scottish Water on 0800 0778 778 in genuine emergencies.
